Beautiful color. Vibrant purple all the way from the rim to the center. Almost magenta. The 2012 REX HILL reserve Pinot Noir is redolent of Bing cherries, black currents, toasty oak, Indian spices, ripe raspberries, violets and wet stones. As the wine sits in the glass opens with aromas of earth, smoke and white pepper. On the palate the attack showcases the richness of the 2012 vintage with intense, but transparent red and blue fruit. On the mid-palate a beautiful and elegant tannic structure balance the ripeness of the fruit and lend savory and wet stone flavors. This is further reinforced by beautifully ripe acidity. The wine finally finishes very long, complete and with haunting notes of red and blue fruits that echo for a long time on the palate. Although the 2012 REX HILL Reserve PN will drink well young it has the balance and structure to age and become more complex over the next 15 years.
